SE Corner: Scout Expo & Summer Camps

Montana Council is excited to host the Montana International Scout Expo for the first time in many years. The Scout Expo is being held at the Montana State Fairgrounds in Great Falls, June 16- 19, 2022.

We have many exciting activities planned. An evening at the Electric City Water Park, various aquatic activities, tours of Malmstrom Air Force Base, a grand parade in Historic Downtown Great Falls, mountain biking, multiple vendors, and great food opportunities, to name a few.

Put this exciting event on your calendar for 2022. We should have sign-up information on our website soon. Learn More.

Thank you to Course Directors Steve Dogiakos and Tony Pecarina and their staff for the successful National Youth Leadership Training course and Wood Badge course.

NYLT was held at Grizzly Base with 48 youth attending the training; the Wood Badge course was held at K-M Scout Ranch and served 23 adult Scouters. I highly recommend taking the Wood Badge and National Youth Leadership Training Courses. They are both outstanding and educational leadership programs for adults and youth.

We are looking forward to a great summer at our camps across Montana Council. The 2021 camp season is kicking off at K-M Scout Ranch this week with Webelos Camp and four weeks of Scouts BSA camp to follow. Several Troops and Venture Crews have arrived on Melita Island and have been busy completing Service Projects. Grizzly Base is hosting units from across the country as they visit the Western part of our beautiful state. Thank you to Jim Atkinson for coordinating the unit visits at Grizzly Base.

Troops from Texas and Maryland are enjoying the high adventure treks at Montana Outdoor High Adventure Base (MOHAB) in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Scouts from all over the country will enjoy the Adventures at MOHAB.

Thank you to the Boone Crockett Club, for providing this wonderful opportunity for all Scouts. Montana is truly a destination state!

Finally, I would like to congratulate Dustin Shoemake who has accepted a new position to serve as the Assistant Scout Executive with the Catalina Council in Tucson, Arizona. This is a great opportunity for Dustin and his family. We thank Dustin for over 7-years of dedicated service with the Montana Council. We wish him well!

Thank you for all you do for Scouting, and have a safe and fun summer!

Yours in Scouting,

Dirk Smith
Scout Executive
