In the spring of 2016, boys and leaders began their religious awards program by completing some initial requirements and started planning a fall retreat at Legendary Lodge.

In addition, some of the boys participated in an Eagle Project in Helena – conducted by Justin Patten – called the Mercy Walk.

The Mercy Walk started out with Mass at St. Cyril & Methodius in East Helena. The boys and leaders then walked to St. Mary for lunch with a reflection on the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

Next, they proceeded to Resurrection Cemetery, taking the time to pray for the dead before continuing on to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church for supper and sleep.

At Our Lady of the Valley, they made blankets for the homeless and cookies for the hungry.

The next morning they set out from Our Lady of the Valley for a short prayer and rest time at Carroll College, finishing with noon Mass at the Cathedral of St. Helena.

As result of participation in this Eagle Project, the boys and leaders were able to earn the Year of Mercy Patch and strengthen their faith with fellow scouts.

Fifteen Boy Scout and six leaders participated in a retreat held at Legendary Lodge September 30 – October 2. This was a faith-filled weekend for the boys and leaders with many opportunities to enjoy fresh air and prayer.

The boys and leaders also each completed two hours of service work repairing erosion and helping winterize the camp.

After the retreat weekend, the boys worked on completing individual requirements and service projects to earn their awards.

Pictured is most of the awardees: 17 Boys Scouts, two Cub Scouts, three Boy Scout Leaders, and 19 Girls Scouts earned the Year of Faith Patch and Catholic Religious Awards from across the Diocese of Helena.
