February is often a hard month for food banks because contributions often decline after the holiday giving season but the need for food support in the community continues.
With the help of several grocery stores in the Gallatin Valley, 126 Scouts and Scouters spent Saturday, February 12 celebrating Scout Week by collecting food and donations for the local food banks. People were generous and the weather was sunny which is not always the case for this annual service project! Everyone was proud of the results, with a total of 7,869 lbs. of food and $3,713.46 in cash collected for the food banks by Scouts.
The new Scouting for Food signs provided by Mountain Valley District helped the service project visibility because people could easily see what Scouts were doing and how they could donate. It always helps to have an enthusiastic volunteer coordinator, so thank you to Gary Stephens.
Happy Scout Week!
