Scout Executive Corner

Dear Scouting Friends,

Welcome to 2017!

It seems that from Thanksgiving onward the clock ticks a bit faster than usual. December flies by and now it is January. Happy New Year!

While we are thankful and can celebrate 2016 as an outstanding year for Scouting in Montana, now is the time to make sure 2017 will be even better.

Here are four questions for units and their leaders to consider. Positive answers to these questions will help ensure your Scouts will have a terrific Scouting experience in 2017.

  1. Leader Training
Will you be sending one or more of your leaders to Wood Badge training this year? There will be two opportunities in 2017: June 18-24 at K-M Scout Ranch near Lewistown and September 14-16 and 28-30 at Grizzly Base Camp in Bigfork
  1. Scout Anniversary Month
Will your unit participate in Scout Anniversary activities in February? Active units will showcase Scouting to their local communities and their Scouts will learn more about the BSA’s rich history.
  1. Annual Convention
Will your unit be represented at the Council Annual Convention this year? This amazing action-packed event April 28-30 in Helena will highlight all aspects of Scouting in Montana. Join other great leaders from all around the state for this remarkable weekend.
  1. Summer Camp
Will your unit have strong participation at summer camp this year?

Cub Packs – Outstanding, experienced leaders have been planning and preparing since August for this coming summer – urge all of your Cubs to attend your district’s Cub Day Camp.

Scout Troops – Both K-M and Melita Island have great programs for new as well as experienced Scouts. Both camps are filling up but there is still room if you sign up now.

A week of summer camp is the highlight of the Scouting year and a must for Boy Scouts.

If you can answer YES to the four questions – congratulations! Your unit is well on the way to a great year of Scouting. Let us know if you have questions or need a hand – together let’s make this year the best ever!

Yours in Scouting,
