SE Corner: Farewell & Thank You

As most of you have heard, I am Retiring from professional Scouting as Scout Executive/CEO on July 1, 2022.

I want to take the opportunity to thank the wonderful volunteers, the great staff and our excellent board for all the support they have given to me in these last three years.

As I mentioned in my keynote address at the Council Convention, I will be staying in Great Falls and will continue to do my community work, including serving as the President of the Great Falls Rotary Club.

I want to thank Wayne Thares (Chairman), Tom Lynch (Program Chairman) and Bill Rutten (Logistics Chairman) for the work they did to make the Montana International Scout Expo a reality. They are a huge reason the event was such a big success.

I would also to thank you the volunteer staff and council staff for their extremely hard work on the Expo. You made the event exceptional.

Nearly 1,200 Scouts and Scouters participated in the event from Montana, Wisconsin, Florida, Illinois, Oregon, California, Louisiana, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, South Carolina and two groups from Canada. The Grand Parade down Central Avenue in Great Falls was spectacular to see. The Scouts, as well as the leaders, had a lot of fun! This was definitely an exciting event and one to remember.

Finally, I want to congratulate our Deputy Scout Executive, Jory Dellinger on becoming the next Scout Executive/CEO for the Montana Council. Jory will do a wonderful job in this position. The Council is in great hands and is set for a for a highly successful future with Jory at the helm.

Thank you to each one of you for all that you have done for me and will continue to do for the Scouts in the Montana Council.

Sincerely,

Dirk Smith
Scout Executive
