I am trying.
I am trying daily to not let the evening news affect me negatively. I am trying to be a better person. And when greeting others, to stand up, look them in the eye, and say hello. I am trying to keep from being upset when I see a parent not correct irresponsible behavior on behalf of their children.
It can be difficult. But I remind myself, I promised to always do my best to live the 12 points of the Scout Law – Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent. To do my duty to God and my Country and to help other people at ALL times.
To me, this has always been a significant and essential part of the holidays. We are blessed with opportunities to reach out and help others. Not everyone in the world has that. Even where it does exist, American’s are largely in a unique position to give either time, treasure or both. I think it is a prominent part of what makes our country a special place. Certainly, it is a part of what makes Montana great.
This holiday season – amidst all the turmoil of COVID-19, variants, politics, news and supply chain challenges – step up, reach out and volunteer or simply be the voice of a warm holiday greeting. Be the good that we all so desperately seek in others. Be a Scout.
Happy Holidays and thanks again for all you do. Thank you for trying. I KNOW it makes a difference every day.
Yours in Scouting,
Jory Dellinger
Deputy Scout Executive
