Deputy SE Corner: Keep Calm. Scout On.

We get it. Things are tough.

We are tackling some complicated problems. We are challenged with recruitment, training, canceling events, finding places to meet and parents are concerned about their youth being around others.

COVID-19 restrictions make things difficult at best. Usually, this time of year, we onboard 1,500-1,600 youth. This year, we have onboarded about 200.

While several youth programs are challenged with these same issues, Scouting can and is still working – Scouting prevails.

This is our time to shine. To step up and lead when it is more difficult than ever. It’s what we do. We Scout On!

The youth we serve, or can possibly serve, need us now more than ever. While things are tough for us, put yourself in the shoes of a Cub Scout or Scouts BSA member – even tougher.

School is not normal, home is not normal and we are restricted from friends and activities as we navigate this uncertain landscape. We can, however, still give youth an amazing program.

In all that is going on in the world, it would be easy to throw up our hands and declare it just too tough. However, our youth need leadership. Our youth need you.

Brian Tracy said, “Leaders think and talk about the solutions. Followers think and talk about their problems.”

Keep calm and Scout On! Thanks for all you do, no matter how tough.

Yours in Scouting,

Jory Dellinger
Deputy Scout Executive
