Jamboree Magic

Scouting Friends,

National Jamborees happen just once every four years. The next one will be held in July, 2017 at the Summit in West Virginia. Montana Council has been granted room for two Boy Scout troops of 36 Scouts each, as well as a Venture patrol. As of this date, we have filled most of the spots, but still have room for about 20 more Scouts.

So – it’s not too late to register!

A National Jamboree is 10 days of non-stop Scouting excitement. Being with 30 to 40 thousand other Scouts from all around the country (along with international Scouts too) is simply amazing. The high adventure opportunities at the Summit abound and the fellowship with other Scouts is remarkable. For most Scouts this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The arena shows are particularly special. When you gather all Jamboree Scouts, leaders and staff together in a huge outdoor amphitheater, you get a feeling you are part of something very positive and powerful – the Scouting movement – it is awe-inspiring!

I can speak from experience here – in 1969 I attended a Jamboree as a Scout and it remains one of the highlights of my own Scouting experience. Yes, that was a long time ago, but the memories have stayed with me. Now, as an adult Scouter, I have served on the staff of the last several National Jamborees, and keep going back because I want to help today’s Scouts have as great an experience as I did, and I get a big dose of Scouting Spirit each time I go.

Scoutmasters and parents of Scouts – do you have a Scout or two that should be a part of the 2017 National Jamboree? If so, now is the time to act! We have a great group of leaders for the two Montana troops and a terrific trip planned. Click here for information. Don’t hesitate to call the Council Service Center if you have questions.

A quick message to adult Scouters – serving on the staff at a National Jamboree can be a mountain-top experience for you too! There are still many staff positions available. For this Jamboree they have introduced the option a half-time staff position – one week of service, instead of two – because so many folks have limited vacation time. Check out the Jamboree Website and, and call if you have questions.

Still not convinced? See some of the excitement!

National Jamborees come around once every four years – is 2017 the one for you?

Yours in Scouting,
