The National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) has available several financial scholarships for Eagle Scouts planning to attend college or vocational trade schools.
Effective immediately, NESA scholarships are also payable to Scouts attending vocational trade schools and approved programs. In the past, NESA scholarships were only available to four-year universities only. NESA scholarships are not payable to any of the U.S. military academies.
The 2016 NESA scholarship cycle is closed, however the next scholarship cycle – for the 2017 scholarships – will open on August 1, 2016, with a submission deadline of October 31, 2016.
Information on the various NESA Scholarships as well as list of other various religious, civic and institutional scholarships available to Eagle Scouts can be found on the NESA website at www.nesa.org.
On the NESA website click on “Scholarship” and you will find a menu of helpful information on NESA’s Scholarship program. Under F&Q there is a short (albeit dated) video with accurate information to further help you. The F&Q page will explain the application process and direct you to the https://nesa.academicworks.com/ website where you will be ask to sign in and create a password. From there click on “applicant” and you will be able to download the NESA Scholarship application. One application form will serve for all scholarships you are qualified to apply for.
Additionally there is also a very generous scholarship available for the nation’s best Eagle Service Project. Information regarding the Glenn and Linda Adams Eagle Service Project Scholarship can be found at: http://www.nesa.org/adams_award.html
The general guidelines for the Adams scholarship are:
- The Council selects its entry from the Eagle Service Projects within its Council area and then sends it into the National Office.
- From there it is forwarded out to the Regions where and a scholarship task force in each Region selects its Region’s best project to send back to the National office for further selection.
- Scouts should fill out the application found at http://www.nesa.org/PDF/542-026.pdf and submit it to their council along with the Eagle Scout project workbook by 21 each year.
