Anniversary Month Contest Winners 2024

Celebrating Scouting Through Community Engagement & Awareness

Montana Council is pleased to announce the 2024 Anniversary Month Contest winners!

Congratulations:
Winning Troop:  141, Sidney – Badlands District
Winning Pack:  4426, Havre – Hi-Line District
– Winning Crew: 2526, Bozeman – Mountain Valley District
– Community Service Award: Troop 1218, Helena – Prickly Pear District


Pack 4426, Havre, Hi-Line District, led by Cubmaster Jeremy Malley. The entry was submitted by Committee Chairman, Bill Lanier.

Pack 4426 completed the following activities:

  1. Sent Valentine’s to two community members who are stationed overseas.
  2. Assisted our Charter Organization St. Jude’s Catholic Church (Knights of Columbus) with their Fish Frye,
  3. Performed a flag ceremony at Lincoln McKinley School before a school program.
  4. Presented the Charter for Pack 4426 to St. Jude’s Catholic Church.
  5. Attended Church service on Scout Sunday.
  6. Made an anniversary month window display (The Charter Organization then wanted it left up in the Parish Center).
  7. Provided donuts to the Community Alliance Church congregation for Scout Sunday (our meeting location).
  8. Wore Uniforms to school.
  9. Sam Malley, Council’s top popcorn seller was highlighted in the Havre Daily News and on the radio.
  10. Spent time at the H Earl Clack Museum as part of the scout display.
  11. Assisted in the securing of a proclamation from the Hill County Commissioners.


Troop 141, Sidney, Badlands District, led by Scoutmaster David Christensen. The entry was submitted by Jody Christensen.

Troop 141 completed the following activities:

  1. The troop attended a city council meeting and secured a signed proclamation from Mayor Rick Norby.
  2. The troop attended and helped with church service on Scout Sunday in uniform.
  3. For a service project, the troop washed fire trucks for the Richland County Fire Department.
  4. The local newspaper published an article about scouts receiving a proclamation from the
    Mayor
  5. Letter to the editor written by the members of Troop 141 and printed in two local newspapers highlighting the benefits of Scouting to our
    community and giving information on how to join our Troop
  6. Scouts created a video on “Why we like Scouts.”

Venturing Crew 2526, Bozeman, Mountain Valley District. The entry was submitted by Advisor Deana Bailey.

Crew 2526 completed the following activities:

  1. Set up a Scout window at the Country Bookshelf on Main Street, Bozeman.
  2. Completed a service project for their sponsoring organization, St. James Church. The church has a house where Family Promise people live. The Crew cleaned out the garage, cleaned up three appliances, and put together a chest of drawers. 
  3. Participated in Scouting for Food as an additional service project. 
  4. For Scout Sunday, Scouts read and ushered for the service. The church had an advertisement in the church bulletin for the Crew. After the service, Crew members went to coffee hour with the parish members. 
  5. Crew (in uniform) went out to lunch together after the Scout Sunday service, then proceeded to go bowling at the MSU bowling alley. 

The Community Service Award is presented to Troop 1218, Helena, Prickly Pear District, led by Scoutmaster Keith Borror. Tom Mazanec submitted the application

Troop 1218 completed the following activities:

  1. Wore their uniforms in public.
  2. Participated in a Scout Sunday Service by performing a flag ceremony.
  3. Completed a service project by collecting Christmas trees and delivering them to be used as a fish habitat on Canyon Ferry Lake as a part of Fish Wildlife and Park’s Pines for Perch program.
  4. Created a public window display at the Double Tree Hotel on the Walk Mall as part of the district’s Scout Week.

The Boy Scouts of America was founded on February 8, 1910. To celebrate, the Montana Council offers an Anniversary Month Contest during the month of February. Any Montana Council unit can earn a beautiful purple Honor Unit streamer for their unit flag pole by completing activities during February.
